September 25

  1. Taking the Stage (Concert Dress, acknowledging the audience, speaking so as to be heard, what to think and say, acknowledging the accompanist, stage presence).  Facilitator: Gayle Ross, Member of the Board of CMM, voice teacher and Rebecca Turner, JPA student leader.
  2. Student Performances & Introduction to the 4-step critical feedback process – one of the foundation blocks of JPA's process orientation. Facilitators: Rebecca Turner, JPA student facilitator and Phil Eisenman, adult facilitator.


October 23

  1. Working with an accompanist (Preparing your music, communicating with your accompanist before, during and after rehearsal/performance, etiquette, what to expect.)  Facilitators: Rob Padilla, pianist, accompanist; Turner; Eisenman.
  2. Student Performance and 4-step Feedback.  This will constitute half of every meeting.


November 27 (In anticipation of preparing for various CNY competitions)

  1. Setting the mental stage – understanding thought: the nature of performance stress and anxiety vs. creative insight and artistic confidence.  Facilitator: Phil Eisenman, singer, psychologist.
  2. Student Performance and 4-step Feedback.


January 15

  1. Setting the mental stage for performing/competing continued – Group discussion of observations/experiences around the artistic thought process. Facilitator: Phil Eisenman, singer, psychologist.
  2. Student Performance and 4-step Feedback.


February 12

  1. Preparing for competitions/NYSSMA  Becoming familiar with the three performance process arenas: 1) exploration and play: discovering potentialities, 2) practice: bringing the unknown into the known, 3) performance: allowing what you can. How to make the most effective use of practice time (what to do, how to want to do it, what to avoid, how much, how often, etc.).
  2. Student Performance and 4-step Feedback.


March 12

  1. Demystifying college auditions with a panel representing private and state institutions of higher learning. How to prepare and present yourself for an audition. Questions from the audience about college music programs. Followed by Student Performance and 4-step Feedback.


April 9 – Last Pre NYSSMA opportunity

  1. General Discussion, then Working in Process – first come, first served in Sign-In order.  Great pre-NYSSMA opportunity.  Use as many steps of the four-step constructive feedback process as are useful to you.


May 14 – Final JPA meeting for the 2016-17 season/Concert

  1. General Discussion, then Working in Process – first come, first served in Sign-In order.  Use as many steps of the four-step constructive feedback process as are useful to you.
  2. OR concert.
