46th Annual CMM Youth Concerto Competition

Symphoria and Civic Morning Musicals are pleased to announce the 46th Annual Concerto Competition. The winner will perform with Symphoria during the 2016-2017 season.


Application deadline: 11:59 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016

Competition date: Thursday, January 12, 2017 beginning at 4 p.m., Setnor Auditorium, Syracuse University School of Music, 900 S Crouse Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210

 

Final Competition date: Monday, January 16, 2017 beginning at 9 a.m., Setnor Auditorium, Syracuse University School of Music, 900 S Crouse Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210

Concert date: January 29, 2017 2:30 p.m., St Paul’s Downtown Episcopal Church, 220 Fayette Street, Syracuse, NY

Students in 7th through 12th grades are eligible to enter. They must be enrolled in the Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, Cortland, Cayuga, Oneida, Herkimer, Tompkins County school districts. Home schooled students residing in those districts are eligible to participate as well.

The Concerto Competition, one of CMM’s important youth programs, is aimed at giving young Central New York musicians the opportunity to thoroughly learn a movement from a concerto and have their performance judged by highly experienced teachers and performers. This feedback contributes to personal and professional development and to the success of any young musician.

The Repertoire List divides instruments into four categories:

  • Strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass)
  • Winds (flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba)
  • Piano
  • Harp, Guitar and Percussion or other - Please submit repertoire for approval.

All competitors must provide their own accompanist for both levels of the competition. All repertoire must be memorized.

The Judges and competition committee members reserve the right not to select any winners.

The 2016/2017 Youth Concerto Competition will be held on January 12, 2017 at Setnor Auditorium, Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. The competition schedule will run for one day in front of a single panel of judges. At the end of the day, the judges will evaluate all the performances and determine finalist. Final competition will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 at Setnor Auditorium, Syracuse University School of Music, 900 S Crouse Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210

Please apply online. Online entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016. After submitting the application go to the paypal link to pay the application fee.

The following must be received:

  • Completed Application Form
  • $40 Application Fee (non-refundable, made payable to Civic Morning Musicals)
  • Teacher certification (click here), printed out, completed, and signed by the teacher
  • Two #10 self-addressed, stamped envelopes.

If applying electronically please bring the signed Teacher certification form and envelopes to the Preliminary Competition with you.
