KindredSpirit Jazz Trio (A Cool Jazz Evening)

$20KindredSpirt, a jazz trio consisting of singer Daniel Fields, singer, trumpeter, and percussionist Nick Fields, and pianist Nick Abelgore present an evening of jazz old and new. We will hear tunes such as St. James Infirmary, a couple Gershwin standards, Afro Blue, as well as newer hits like Umbrella and Crazy.

Nicholas Abelgore is a multi-instrumentalist, music educator, and yoga teacher from Fulton, NY. He has degrees in Trombone Performance and Music Education from Syracuse University, where he studied both classical and jazz. Additionally, Nick performs professionally as a solo/collaborative pianist and is the pipe organist at St. David’s Episcopal. He freelances around CNY in wedding bands, bars, restaurants, musicals, churches, and other venues playing everything from jazz-pop fusion to acoustic rock, classical to Kirtan. Nick also sings, plays guitar, and writes/composes his own music.
Nick is a certified yoga teacher with training from Boston Yoga School and ChildLight Edu-cation Company. He uses fitness and meditation in tandem with his musicianship for the purpose of injury prevention, body efficiency, accessing flow state, and altering thought pat-terns. Nick currently gives classes at Le Moyne College, Vyana Yoga Studio, and Brookdale Senior Living Community. Some of his other favorite teaching assignments regarding music, ESL, and general education have been with the Montessori School of Syracuse, Redhouse Arts Center, Music for People, and American Village (France).
Daniel Fields has received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Syracuse University and a Masters in Vocal Arts and Opera from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. He has performed extensively with Central New York’s Society for New Music both in operas and as a recitalist. Some of the highlights of his operatic performance career include playing Abel in The Astronaut’s Tale, Henry Snibblesworth in The Classical Style, the Student in Strawberry Fields, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, and Tezcatlipoca in How Music Came to the Earth. Most recently, he has performed with USC Opera as Lysander in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande. As a recitalist he has performed in chamber works ranging from Bach’s Coffee Cantata to Alex Burtzo’s Many Worlds.
Mr. Fields held the soloist/section leader position at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Syracuse between 2013-2019. Currently, he is the Tenor soloist and section leader at St. David’s Episcopal Church, and a Cantor at Church of the Most Holy Rosary. He regularly performs as a jazz and pop vocalist in CNY club venues and with the Silver Arrow Band.
Nicholas Fields is a Syracuse-based multi-instrumentalist in numerous genres. As a jazz musician, he has played with Melissa Gardiner, Tia Fuller, Wycliffe Gordon, and many others. He debuted numerous contemporary classical pieces as a classical tenor, and acts as a multi-instrumentalist and arranger for many groups, including the multiple Sammy-winning Jess Novak Band. He maintains an active schedule playing jazz and commercial music with his own groups and Kindred Spirit CNY, functioning as a rapper and percussionist in addition to his normal singing and trumpet-playing duties.
In addition to playing over 200 performances per year, Mr. Fields takes an active interest in education and mentorship. To that end, he has developed jam session programming for professionals and amateurs in multiple genres, has a private studio offering voice, trumpet, jazz studies and general musicianship courses and teaches at Holy Cross Elementary school in Dewitt. Additionally, Mr. Fields has been commissioned three times by the Society for New Music, once as a lyricist, once as a composer for Franklin Elementary in Syracuse and once to develop an educational series on arranging.
CMM (Civic Morning Musicals) exists to support classically trained musicians and their audiences throughout the Central New York region. It is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, which produces more than 30 concerts a year and sponsors activities for young musicians.
