Hailing from upstate New York, Benjamin Daly (24) began his journey through the world of music at age four where his desire to perform was born mainly from a desire to show off as often as he could. His love for applause quickly transformed into a love for the music itself. Under the tutelage of Patricia DeAngelis and Andrew Russo he entered and won competitions throughout his youth, such as the New York State Heddy Killian Competition, the Civic Morning Musicals Concerto Competition, and in his senior year the CNYAMT’s Senior Scholarship Competition and Senior Advanced Piano Competition. Outside of competing, Daly regularly gave recitals in performance halls, museums, churches, and retirement homes.
Recently, Daly has begun to dedicate his time to teaching. During an undergraduate elective, taken mainly to gain experience, he discovered an unexpected joy in teaching and pedagogy, and has since sought outlets to develop this branch of his musical skillset. He is currently employed as a piano teacher at the Baltimore School of Music.
Daly earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College, where he graduated with honors, before matriculating to the Peabody Institute where he is currently completing his Masters Degree in piano performance in the studio of Alexander Shtarkman.
Understanding the importance of a broad perspective in all aspects of music, Daly spent nine years studying the violin, most recently with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra. He was also an active member and leader in his Middle and High School Choirs and developed an interest in vocal jazz when he joined IC’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble. At Ithaca he also discovered a newfound interest in orchestral conducting, which he still pursues at Peabody. Outside of music, Daly enjoys reading, and playing tennis, golf, and hockey with his family.
