Samba Laranja: Syracuse University Brazilian Ensemble

$20Welcome to Civic Morning Musicals’ new concert series, First Mondays! We feature artists presenting a unique musical experience on Monday nights.
Samba Laranja, the Syracuse University Brazilian Ensemble, was founded in 2001 by Elisa Dekaney and Joshua Dekaney. It is a class offered every semester dedicated to performing all styles of Brazilian music including Indigenous, African, and European traditions, encompassing folk, popular, and traditional songs. Over its 20 years of existence, the group has performed numerous performances in schools, community centers, in New York and neighboring states. The group has performed four times at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City and has won three Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMY) for their recordings Native Orange (2011), Pathways (2014), and GuaranĂ¡ (2019).
Current ensemble members are Michael G. Ando, Zoe Alice Barbey, Aidan Blaylock, Ainsley Lynn Brouse, Shoshanna Liv Cohen, Grady Collingbourne, Michael Dean, Katharine Lapham, Grace Lesselroth, Giovanna Marpop, KaycieRomano, and Ben Simens.

CMM (Civic Morning Musicals) exists to support classically trained musicians and their audiences throughout the Central New York region. It is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, which produces more than 30 concerts a year and sponsors activities for young musicians.
